Kharghar is built against a hill. The slopes rise behind the upper sectors to a plateau of grass and scattered trees, and in the monsoon the Pandavkada falls run off them. Below, CIDCO laid out Central Park and a golf course across a wide stretch of the node. On the other side, wetlands and mangroves hold the creek edge. Between them sit dense housing sectors, with gardens and avenue trees planted as the node was built. Green work here means joining these edges: for the people who walk between them every morning.
Most of Kharghar's trees went in with the node: the fast-growing avenue species CIDCO favoured along the roads, and whatever each society chose for its compound. Work now comes from new towers on the remaining plots, rebuilding and extensions, and metro and road works. Permission runs through the Panvel Municipal Corporation's Tree Authority. We number and measure every tree, prepare the application, and judge honestly which can be transplanted: on hill-side plots the soil is thin, and a lifted tree needs a deep, prepared pit at its new site. The work is carried from our base in the region by named people, start to finish, not passed down a chain.

Every corporation, its own rules. One credible census argues them all.
Local demand
What drives tree management in Kharghar.
The first driver is the trees the node planted for itself. Kharghar's avenues and society compounds were planted as the sectors filled, and many trees are now full-grown. New towers on the remaining plots, extensions and rebuilding, and metro and road works around the stations all meet them. Each felling or transplant needs a census and permission from the Panvel Municipal Corporation's Tree Authority under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975. That permission usually carries compensatory planting: and that planting needs land in a node with little of it left.
Many of Kharghar's trees have reached full size in shallow soil over rock, and monsoon storms bring some down each year onto cars, walls and roads. Societies need to know which trees are sound and which need pruning or removal. And even a leaning tree needs permission before it is cut. Developers on the remaining plots also meet trees that grew up on land left empty for years, and those count in the census as much as any planted avenue tree.
How it works
Tree Management, from survey to survival.
- 01/05
Tree enumeration & census
Every tree on site numbered, measured and identified, the defensible count the whole application rests on.
- 02/05
Transplant feasibility
An honest assessment of which trees can be saved by transplantation rather than felled.
- 03/05
Tree Authority NOC
The cutting / transplantation application prepared and pursued through the relevant municipal Tree Authority.
- 04/05
Transplantation
Careful lifting, moving and replanting of feasible trees with root-ball protection.
- 05/05
Post-transplant survival
Monitoring and the survival compliance the authority requires after a transplant.

Straight answers
Tree Management in Kharghar: common questions.
01A tree in our Kharghar compound leans further towards the building after every monsoon. Can we remove it?
Not without permission, even if it looks dangerous. The Tree Authority can allow felling or heavy pruning of a hazardous tree, and in an emergency the corporation's own teams can act. We inspect the root plate, trunk, lean and decay, and write a report that supports pruning, bracing or removal, so the society applies with evidence.
02Our society backs onto the Kharghar hill. Can we plant on the slope behind our wall?
Not without checking who owns it. Much of the hill is forest land or held by CIDCO, and planting there, however well meant, needs the landholder's consent. Inside your own compound you are free to plant, and native hill species (ain, kinjal, palas, bahava) do well there. We map the boundary first and design from it.
03How long does tree management take in Kharghar, and who is involved?
Panvel Municipal Corporation Tree Authority and Garden Department · CIDCO · Maharashtra Forest Department · Mangrove Cell, Maharashtra Forest Department are the bodies a Kharghar project works with. On timing: census in weeks; NOC by Tree Authority calendar. KIPL sets out a realistic Kharghar schedule once the site and the scope have been read, and carries the work through to the outcome, with comparable work on the record such as MCGM GARDEN DEVELOPMENT- MIYAWAKI PLANTATION.
