Village land around Owe holds trees that farmers and families kept for fruit, shade and worship: mango, jackfruit, tamarind, banyan and peepal among them. When the land changes hands for building, these trees are often the only link to what the place was. We survey every tree early, show the architect which ones can stay in open space or setbacks, and file for the others with the Tree Authority, marking any tree the village treats as sacred so it can be discussed openly.
Owe is an older village at Kharghar's outer edge, where the node's sectors meet the hills. Its houses and lanes remain, but the fields and open land around it are being taken up by new sectors and residential towers. Above the village, a small dam holds a lake in a fold between the hills, and in the monsoon streams run down past the settlement towards the node. The ground here is steeper and more broken than in central Kharghar. It is still one of the node's quieter corners, but building has been moving steadily towards it.
How it works
Tree Management, from survey to survival.
- 01/05
Tree enumeration & census
Every tree on site numbered, measured and identified, the defensible count the whole application rests on.
- 02/05
Transplant feasibility
An honest assessment of which trees can be saved by transplantation rather than felled.
- 03/05
Tree Authority NOC
The cutting / transplantation application prepared and pursued through the relevant municipal Tree Authority.
- 04/05
Transplantation
Careful lifting, moving and replanting of feasible trees with root-ball protection.
- 05/05
Post-transplant survival
Monitoring and the survival compliance the authority requires after a transplant.

Tree Management in Owe: common questions.
01There is a peepal tree with a small shrine on our plot. What should we do?
Plan to keep it if at all possible. Beyond the Tree Authority's permission, removing a shrine tree often causes deep local opposition. Designing it into open space usually costs less than the dispute. We map the tree and its root zone so the architect can plan around it.
02How long does tree management take in Owe?
On timing: census in weeks; NOC by Tree Authority calendar. A realistic Owe schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
