Tree Management in Panvel, on the ground where the work actually is, Karnala's forest to the south, the lakes of old Panvel, the Gadhi river and the new townships in between, with one team on it from the site survey until the survival data says it took.
Why Panvel

Panvel's green lies in pieces between a forest and a building front. To the south, Karnala's bird sanctuary holds dense forest on the hill below its fort. In the old town, Vadale lake and the Gadhi river are the green most residents know. The CIDCO nodes of Kamothe, Kalamboli and New Panvel have avenue trees and small gardens, and the villages towards the airport still have mango, tamarind and banyan in their lanes. Much of that is being built over. Green work here decides what the next generation of Panvel keeps.
Tree work in Panvel covers two kinds of ground. Inside municipal limits, the Panvel Municipal Corporation's Tree Authority decides, from a census of every tree on the plot. On the airport side, older village trees (mango, tamarind, banyan and peepal) stand in the way of new roads and layouts. We number and measure each tree, prepare the application, and assess honestly which trees can be moved. Transplanted trees are watered and checked until the survival condition is met. The work is carried from our base in the region by named people, start to finish, not passed down a chain.

Every corporation, its own rules. One credible census argues them all.
Local demand
What drives tree management in Panvel.
Development is the first driver. New layouts in the nodes and on the airport side meet trees at every turn: in village lanes, on farm bunds and along the roads being widened to carry the traffic. Within municipal limits, felling or moving a tree needs the Panvel Municipal Corporation's Tree Authority under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975. Beyond them, other rules and authorities apply. Each project then owes compensatory planting, and on bare, heat-baked murum that planting only survives with proper soil work and care through the first summers.
Road work drives much of Panvel's tree work. The approaches to the new airport, widening of the Mumbai–Goa highway and new internal roads in the nodes all pass through tree-lined stretches. Village trees here are old and often held in common regard, a banyan at a temple or a tamarind at the village square. Removing one draws attention quickly. Owners and road agencies need a census that stands up to scrutiny, and transplanting where it genuinely works.
How it works
Tree Management, from survey to survival.
- 01/05
Tree enumeration & census
Every tree on site numbered, measured and identified, the defensible count the whole application rests on.
- 02/05
Transplant feasibility
An honest assessment of which trees can be saved by transplantation rather than felled.
- 03/05
Tree Authority NOC
The cutting / transplantation application prepared and pursued through the relevant municipal Tree Authority.
- 04/05
Transplantation
Careful lifting, moving and replanting of feasible trees with root-ball protection.
- 05/05
Post-transplant survival
Monitoring and the survival compliance the authority requires after a transplant.

Straight answers
Tree Management in Panvel: common questions.
01There is an old banyan beside the temple on our plot in a Panvel village. Must it be felled?
Not necessarily, and it is worth trying hard to keep. Old banyans often transplant poorly, so keeping it in place with the layout designed around it is usually the better choice. We map its canopy and roots, show the architect what space it needs, and apply for permission only where there is no alternative. The village's view matters too.
02Our plot is outside PMC limits, in a village near the airport. Does the Trees Act still apply?
The 1975 Act covers urban areas. Outside them, felling is regulated under the Maharashtra Felling of Trees (Regulation) Act, 1964, through the Forest and revenue departments, and certain species need permission wherever they stand. Planning conditions from CIDCO can add their own requirements. We confirm which regime covers the plot before the tree census starts.
03How long does tree management take in Panvel, and who is involved?
Panvel Municipal Corporation Tree Authority and Garden Department · CIDCO · Maharashtra Forest Department (Karnala) · MPCB Raigad are the bodies a Panvel project works with. On timing: census in weeks; NOC by Tree Authority calendar. KIPL sets out a realistic Panvel schedule once the site and the scope have been read, and carries the work through to the outcome, with comparable work on the record such as MCGM GARDEN DEVELOPMENT- MIYAWAKI PLANTATION.
