Sustainable Landscaping in Mira-Bhayandar, on the ground where the work actually is, the Kashimira edge of the national park, the Uttan hills and coast and the mangroves along the creeks, with one team on it from the site survey until the survival data says it took.

Mira-Bhayandar is pressed between green it cannot build on. Sanjay Gandhi National Park rises behind Kashimira and the eastern wards. Mangroves line the creeks to the north and west, and the Uttan peninsula holds open hills, fishing villages and the sea. Salt pans take up much of the flat ground in between. The housing itself, rows of towers along Mira Road and in Bhayandar, has little green of its own. Green work here means making small spaces count and keeping the city's edges whole for the people who live beside them.
Landscapes in Mira-Bhayandar mostly sit on podiums and narrow setbacks, and near the creek the ground is saline and the wind carries salt. We design podium beds with proper drainage layers, choose native and salt-tolerant planting over lawns, irrigate from the building's treated water, and lay hardscape to shed rain rather than pond it. The result is a landscape the society can maintain after handover without fighting the site it stands on. The work is carried from our base in the region by named people, start to finish, not passed down a chain.

Local demand
What drives sustainable landscaping in Mira-Bhayandar.
Redevelopment is the first driver. When an old Bhayandar or Mira Road building gives way to a tower, the trees in its compound, often planted by the first residents, come before the MBMC Tree Authority under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975. Enumeration, transplant assessment and compensatory planting follow. With the new building filling most of the plot, compensatory planting is hard to place on site, and developers need land and species that will actually survive. Green-cover conditions in the tower's clearance add to the same task.
Mira-Bhayandar has long lived with short water supply, and many societies top up with tankers in summer. Towers on redevelopment plots put nearly all their green on podiums, where shallow soil dries fast and every litre is pumped. Treated water from the building's own STP is often the only reliable source for the garden. Landscapes designed around that water (drip lines, mulched beds, species that tolerate it) stay green when the municipal supply is cut.

Straight answers
Sustainable Landscaping in Mira-Bhayandar: common questions.
01Our podium garden facing the creek keeps losing plants to salt wind. What will survive?
Plants that already grow on this coast: portia tree, karanj, screw pine and native grasses on the exposed edge, with more tender plants sheltered behind them. We also test the soil for salt, flush beds with fresh water where it builds up, and add windbreak planting or screens at the terrace edge.
02Our Mira Road building backs onto the mangroves. Can we plant or landscape there?
Not in the mangroves, and nothing built or dumped within the 50-metre buffer the Bombay High Court set around them in 2018. Work in the mangroves themselves goes through the Forest Department's Mangrove Cell. Beyond that line, planting suited to a salty, wet edge helps: native trees and shrubs, no invasive ornamentals. We map the line first and design only where it allows.
03How long does sustainable landscaping take in Mira-Bhayandar, and who is involved?
MBMC Tree Authority · MBMC Garden Department · Mangrove Cell · Maharashtra Forest Department · MCZMA are the bodies a Mira-Bhayandar project works with. On timing: design to execution by scope; maintenance optional. KIPL sets out a realistic Mira-Bhayandar schedule once the site and the scope have been read, and carries the work through to the outcome, with comparable work on the record such as IRRIGATION WORK AT TCS BANYAN PARK.
