Uttan lies at the western end of the city, a coastal area of fishing villages, low hills and beaches facing the Arabian Sea, reached by the road out of Bhayandar. Its Koli and East Indian communities have lived here for generations by fishing and farming, and the villages keep their churches, wadis and small landing points for boats. There are resorts, retreat centres and weekend homes, and to the south the area runs on towards Gorai. It is also where the corporation's refuse has long been dumped, a use that has drawn repeated protest from the villages nearby.
Uttan's questions come from its shoreline and from being where the city sends what it does not want. Coastal rules limit and condition what can be built near the shore and around the fishing villages. The dumped refuse affects the air, the groundwater and the health of people living near it. Resorts and new buildings bring sewage and waste to a place with little public infrastructure. And the fishing communities depend on creeks, beaches and inshore water that stay clean enough to work.

Straight answers
Uttan: common questions.
01Can a fishing family rebuild its house in Uttan under the CRZ rules?
The CRZ Notification makes specific provision for the homes of traditional coastal communities, including fisherfolk, so reconstruction is often possible within stated conditions. The details depend on the plot's category and its distance from the shore. We check both and help the family prepare what the application needs.
02Is a management plan needed for a small resort extension?
The law may not require a formal plan, but CRZ and local approvals often attach conditions that expect one, and a short plan helps avoid complaints and damage. We write one sized to the project: a few pages, with the practical measures and the checks that show they were carried out.
03What can be done about an old dumping ground?
Options include biomining to recover recyclable material and cut the volume, capping to stop rain soaking through, collecting and treating leachate, and managing landfill gas. Which combination suits depends on how old and large the heap is and what it holds. We study the heap and lay out each option with its cost and timescale.
04Our resort's occupancy swings between weekdays and weekends. How should the STP be designed?
With an equalisation tank to absorb the weekend surge and a treatment stage that still performs when the resort is nearly empty. Modular plants, where one train can be rested, help. We size the plant on your actual occupancy records and set out a running routine for busy and quiet periods.
05Can mangrove planting count as CSR?
Environmental sustainability and the conservation of natural resources are among the CSR activities the law lists, so mangrove work can qualify. Planting on mangrove land normally requires agreement from the forest department. We help design the project to fit the company's CSR policy and obtain the permissions it needs.
