Extended Producer Responsibility in Navi Mumbai, on the ground where the work actually is, the TTC industrial belt, the data-centre corridor at Mahape and Airoli, and the offices of Vashi and Belapur, carried by one accredited team, from the first baseline to the signed-off report.

Navi Mumbai is a city of permits that never stop. A chemical unit in Rabale holds an MPCB consent that has to be renewed, reported on and audited. A data centre in Mahape answers to its clearance conditions and to a listed customer asking for carbon data. A developer in a CIDCO node carries a green rating and a CER condition into construction. The approval is one moment: the obligations that follow it run for years, and they land on the same desk.
Navi Mumbai sits beside JNPA at Nhava Sheva, and many importers and brand owners run their offices from Vashi, Belapur and the Thane–Belapur road. Importing electronics, batteries or packaged goods makes a company a producer under CPCB's EPR rules, whether or not it manufactures anything. Chemical and pigment units in the TTC area often carry a plastic packaging obligation as well. Each regime has its own CPCB portal and its own annual return. A shortfall in one is not covered by credits in another. The work is carried from our base in the region by named people, start to finish, not passed down a chain.

If your product becomes waste, the law now follows it there. EPR is where you account for that.
Local demand
What drives extended producer responsibility in Navi Mumbai.
The first driver is the TTC industrial area. MIDC's belt from Airoli through Rabale, Mahape and Turbhe holds chemical, pigment, pharma and engineering units, many of them decades old and operating under consents renewed many times over. Each renewal, each environmental statement and each hazardous-waste return is a date that someone has to keep. Older units also change hands, and a buyer or lender wants to know what liability sits in the soil and the paperwork before the money moves.
Enforcement has changed the question. CPCB now levies environmental compensation for unmet EPR targets, and large buyers increasingly ask suppliers for an EPR registration number before they place an order. Navi Mumbai has many of the businesses this reaches: distributors and importers near the port, packaging users in the TTC area, and the data centres whose servers, UPS systems and batteries are replaced on a regular cycle. Much of that equipment is imported. Someone in the chain carries the producer's obligation, and it is often the company that least expects it.

Straight answers
Extended Producer Responsibility in Navi Mumbai: common questions.
01We import UPS batteries for data centres in Mahape. Does battery EPR apply to us?
Yes. Under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, an importer is treated as a producer. You register on CPCB's battery EPR portal under the right category, UPS batteries are usually industrial batteries, and meet collection and recycling targets each year through registered recyclers. The annual return reconciles those targets. If you also import the UPS units themselves, e-waste EPR may apply as well.
02We are a supplier to a listed company, not listed ourselves. Why are we being asked for ESG data?
Because your customer's BRSR now reaches into its value chain. Many Navi Mumbai suppliers (engineering units in TTC, service firms in Vashi and Belapur) are receiving questionnaires on energy, emissions and waste. The request is commercial, not statutory. We help you measure what is asked, answer it once, and keep the data ready for the next cycle.
03How long does extended producer responsibility take in Navi Mumbai, and who is involved?
MPCB Navi Mumbai · SEIAA Maharashtra · CPCB (EPR) · SEBI (BRSR) are the bodies a Navi Mumbai project works with. On timing: registration weeks; returns annual. KIPL sets out a realistic Navi Mumbai schedule once the site and the scope have been read, and carries the work through to the outcome, with comparable work on the record such as EIA for Synthetic Organic Chemical Industry.
