Uran holds the country's busiest state-run container port, and most of the town's compliance work follows it. The terminals at Nhava Sheva, the container freight stations and warehouses along the roads to Dronagiri and Jasai, the ONGC plant that processes oil and gas from the Mumbai offshore fields, and the tank farms around them all run on consents, clearances and returns. Much of this land was reclaimed from creek and mudflat. Compliance here means answering to the port, CIDCO and MPCB at once: on sites that sit beside mangrove and tidal water.

CSR and CER spending in Uran has a clear local context. The port, the ONGC plant and the logistics belt grew around Koli fishing villages and farming hamlets, many of whose creeks, landings and grazing grounds changed with them. The needs are practical: mangrove and wetland restoration, school and health facilities, clean water, shade in villages crossed by container traffic. We help settle the budget, check whether it also counts as CSR, agree ownership with the council or gram panchayat, then build the work and report on it. The work is carried from our base in the region by named people, start to finish, not passed down a chain.

CSR / CER Advisory · Uran

CER isn't a cheque to the community. It's a project in the community, and the plan decides whether it lands.

Local demand

What drives csr / cer advisory in Uran.

The port economy drives most of the work. Container freight stations, empty-container yards, cold stores and warehouses along the JNPA approach roads each need MPCB consent, and those handling hazardous cargo or storing chemicals carry further duties under the hazardous-waste and chemical-storage rules. Tank farms for liquid cargo add storage and emergency obligations. Many operators lease their land from JNPA, CIDCO or private owners, and sites change hands. Each new operator inherits consents, conditions and a site history: and needs to know what it has taken on.

Uran's companies (the port and its terminal operators, ONGC, the power and gas plants, the larger logistics firms) carry CSR obligations of real size, and their neighbours are close by. The fishing villages at Karanja, Mora and along the creeks have lived with dredging, reclamation and heavy traffic for decades. Mangrove and wetland restoration is an obvious choice here, but it needs the Mangrove Cell's agreement and a plan for protection after planting. The work that lasts is chosen with the village and handed to someone ready to keep it.

Straight answers

CSR / CER Advisory in Uran: common questions.

01Can our CSR budget fund mangrove planting near Uran?

It can, and it is a common choice. Mangroves on government land are largely under the Forest Department's Mangrove Cell, so planting needs its approval and usually follows its species and site choices. We prepare the proposal, agree protection from grazing, dumping and tidal damage, and involve the nearby village, since planted mangroves survive where people have a stake in them.

02Our warehouse plot is next to mangroves. Does that change our compliance?

Yes. The Bombay High Court's 2018 judgment protects mangroves and bars construction within fifty metres of them, and the plot may also fall within the coastal regulation zone. Any expansion, new shed or even a boundary wall near that edge needs checking first. We map the mangrove line and the CRZ status, and keep the site's work inside what they allow.

03How long does csr / cer advisory take in Uran, and who is involved?

MPCB Raigad · JNPA · CIDCO · MCZMA · SEIAA Maharashtra · CPCB (EPR) · SEBI (BRSR) are the bodies an Uran project works with. On timing: across construction & early operation. KIPL sets out a realistic Uran schedule once the site and the scope have been read, and carries the work through to the outcome, with comparable work on the record such as MCGM GARDEN DEVELOPMENT- MIYAWAKI PLANTATION.
