On the Parsik slopes above Mumbra, the trees that remain do real work: their roots bind shallow soil over rock, and every one removed for building leaves the slope a little weaker. Applications to the Tree Authority here should be read with slope stability in mind. We survey trees on and around a hill-side plot, identify those holding the ground above or below the building, and argue for keeping them in the design. Where planting is required, we use deep-rooted native species on the slope itself.
Mumbra is a TMC ward on a narrow strip of land between the Parsik hills and the creek, east of Kalwa, with the railway running along the water's edge and the Mumbra bypass cut into the hill above. It is among the most densely built parts of the city: mid-rise buildings packed into lanes, older settlements, and busy market streets near the station. The hill rises steeply behind, with the Mumbra Devi shrine near its top and houses on its lower slopes. Kausa, to the south, continues the same pattern, and new building is still going up at the ward's edges.
How it works
Tree Management, from survey to survival.
- 01/05
Tree enumeration & census
Every tree on site numbered, measured and identified, the defensible count the whole application rests on.
- 02/05
Transplant feasibility
An honest assessment of which trees can be saved by transplantation rather than felled.
- 03/05
Tree Authority NOC
The cutting / transplantation application prepared and pursued through the relevant municipal Tree Authority.
- 04/05
Transplantation
Careful lifting, moving and replanting of feasible trees with root-ball protection.
- 05/05
Post-transplant survival
Monitoring and the survival compliance the authority requires after a transplant.

Tree Management in Mumbra: common questions.
01Will planting trees on the slope behind our building reduce landslide risk?
It helps over years, not in the coming monsoon. Deep-rooted native trees and grasses bind the surface soil and slow runoff, but they do not replace retaining walls or drainage where a slope is already unstable. On public or forest land, planting needs the owner's consent. We assess the slope with an engineer and plant where it genuinely helps.
02How long does tree management take in Mumbra?
On timing: census in weeks; NOC by Tree Authority calendar. A realistic Mumbra schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
