Why Dombivli MIDC Phase I
The ground this work sits on here.
- Area
- Dombivli MIDC Phase I, Kalyan-Dombivli
- Practice
- Urban Ecology and Green Infrastructure Services
- Typically for
- Industrial units, estates, MIDC plots, chemical and manufacturing sites
In Phase I a green belt is often the only thing standing between a reactor shed and the building across the road. Most plots here have thin margins, and many of those have since been paved. We find the ground that remains along boundaries and at road frontages, plant dense evergreen rows along the housing side, using species hardy enough for chemical-laden air. Trees are mapped and counted, so the belt shown in the consent is the one that stands.
Phase I is the older half of the MIDC estate in Dombivli East, laid out when paddy fields and open ground still surrounded it. Its plots hold chemical, dye, textile processing and engineering units, most of them owner-run, with reactor sheds, drum yards and boiler chimneys set close together. The estate was planned with its own residential zone, and that housing has since filled in and grown upward, so apartment blocks now overlook working plants across a single road. Its units send their wastewater on to a shared plant for final treatment. Several older units have shut or changed hands, and their sheds have found new occupiers.
How it works
Green Belt Development for Industries, from survey to survival.
- 01/04
Condition & buffer planning
The EC and consent green-cover conditions read, and a buffer plan sized and structured to meet them on the available plot.
- 02/04
Species selection
Pollution- and dust-tolerant native species chosen for attenuation, screening and survival at an industrial boundary.
- 03/04
Planting & establishment
Multi-row planting and the establishment care a buffer needs to close its canopy.
- 04/04
Compliance records
Documentation of the green cover developed and maintained, for the post-EC compliance file.

Green Belt Development for Industries in Dombivli MIDC Phase I: common questions.
01Almost all our plot is built over or paved. Can we still satisfy the green-belt condition?
Start by recording what exists and where the gaps are. Some ground can usually be recovered: a paved margin, an unused corner, a strip beside the compound wall. Where the plot cannot take the full number, MPCB may accept planting nearby with MIDC's agreement. We document the shortfall and propose a remedy the board can weigh.
02How long does green belt development for industries take in Dombivli MIDC Phase I?
On timing: planting seasonal; establishment 2–3 years. A realistic Dombivli MIDC Phase I schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
