Nearly every piece of port work here falls inside CRZ, so a jetty, a pipeline trestle or a yard on reclaimed land needs MCZMA's recommendation before the central or state appraisal. Port activities are among those the CRZ Notification allows on the coast, but where it sits still matters: mangroves, mudflats and the tide line decide what goes where. We overlay the project on the sanctioned coastal zone map and build the CRZ file in parallel with the clearance.
JNPT / Nhava Sheva means the port and the ground it occupies: the container terminals of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority along the harbour, some run by the port and some by private operators, with liquid-cargo berths, rail sidings, container yards and the port's own township at Sheva. The old villages of Nhava and Sheva gave the port its name, and parts of them remain nearby. A large part of this land was once tidal creek and mudflat, filled to build the port. Trucks and trains serve the terminals around the clock, and the channel is dredged to keep large ships coming in.

01Our container yard near the port is on reclaimed land. Does CRZ still apply?
It can. Reclaimed land within the zone does not stop being coastal land because it is now dry, and its category comes from the sanctioned zone map. Much of the port area is mapped inside the zone. We read the yard's position on that map and list the permissions it needs.
02How long does crz clearance take in JNPT / Nhava Sheva?
