Much of the land now being built on in Virar was orchard or wadi, with mango, coconut and other mature trees. Removing or transplanting them requires permission from the corporation's tree authority, and the replanting conditions that follow are checked later. We survey and tag every tree, advise which can be kept in the layout, prepare the application, and handle transplanting and replanting with records that show survival.
Virar lies near the far northern end of Mumbai's Western suburban railway, where many Mumbai commuters begin their journey each day. The town spreads on both sides of the tracks: Virar West reaches towards Bolinj and the coast at Arnala, while Virar East rises towards the hills, with the Jivdani temple on the ridge. Once a small station town among orchards and farms, it now holds mid-rise housing complexes, gated layouts and new commercial streets, and building continues on the fields and plantations at its edges. Some greenery survives in the older wadis and on the hill slopes.
How it works
Tree Management, from survey to survival.
- 01/05
Tree enumeration & census
Every tree on site numbered, measured and identified, the defensible count the whole application rests on.
- 02/05
Transplant feasibility
An honest assessment of which trees can be saved by transplantation rather than felled.
- 03/05
Tree Authority NOC
The cutting / transplantation application prepared and pursued through the relevant municipal Tree Authority.
- 04/05
Transplantation
Careful lifting, moving and replanting of feasible trees with root-ball protection.

Tree Management in Virar: common questions.
01Can mature mango trees be transplanted successfully?
Some can, with preparation. Survival depends on the tree's age and health, the season, root pruning well before the move and care afterwards. Very old trees often do poorly. We examine every tree, then advise which to retain, which to transplant and which cannot be saved, and plan compensatory planting accordingly.
02How long does tree management take in Virar?
On timing: census in weeks; NOC by Tree Authority calendar. A realistic Virar schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
