Bhayandar West's older compounds and lanes hold mature trees (coconut, banyan, peepal, gulmohur and others) that are at risk when buildings are redeveloped or roads widened. MBMC's tree authority must approve each felling or relocation, and it follows up on the replacement planting it orders. We number and record each tree, suggest which the new layout can keep, and see the application, the moves and the new planting through.
Bhayandar West is the older side of the city, west of the railway, where the first town grew up beside the station and out along the Uttan road. Its lanes hold housing societies a generation or two old, markets, small workshops and shops, and many of those buildings are now being redeveloped. To the north lies the creek, crossed by the railway bridge to Naigaon; westward and southward, salt pans, mangroves and marshy ground stretch towards Gorai and the Uttan hills. Fishing and salt-making were once the main work here, and the low ground still floods in heavy rain at high tide.

Tree Management in Bhayandar West: common questions.
01Can coconut palms be transplanted?
Generally yes, and they tend to move more successfully than many broad-leaved trees because of their compact root system. They still need careful lifting, bracing and watering for some months afterwards. We assess each palm's health and height, plan the move for a suitable season and follow up until it has re-established.
02How long does tree management take in Bhayandar West?
On timing: census in weeks; NOC by Tree Authority calendar. A realistic Bhayandar West schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
