Why Taloja MIDC
The ground this work sits on here.
- Area
- Taloja MIDC, Taloja
- Practice
- Urban Ecology and Green Infrastructure Services
- Typically for
- Industrial units, estates, MIDC plots, chemical and manufacturing sites
Green belts in Taloja are expected to screen the housing nearby as well as meet a consent condition. Many were planted decades ago, often as monoculture rows, and have thinned. We grade the present belt tree by tree, fill gaps with dense native species tolerant of emissions, make the housing-side edge deeper, and feed a drip line with treated water. The record of each tree then shows the inspector what is standing.
Taloja MIDC is the industrial estate itself: a large grid of plots laid out by MIDC below the hills east of Kharghar, holding chemical, pharmaceutical, food, plastics, steel and engineering units. Some are large continuous-process plants; many are mid-sized batch units running reactors, dryers and boilers. The estate's effluent flows by pipe to one collective treatment works, and its hazardous waste is trucked to a shared disposal site close by. The Kasadi river flows through and alongside it. Housing nodes and villages have grown up on its edges, so a unit that once had fields beyond its wall may now face apartment windows.
How it works
Green Belt Development for Industries, from survey to survival.
- 01/04
Condition & buffer planning
The EC and consent green-cover conditions read, and a buffer plan sized and structured to meet them on the available plot.
- 02/04
Species selection
Pollution- and dust-tolerant native species chosen for attenuation, screening and survival at an industrial boundary.
- 03/04
Planting & establishment
Multi-row planting and the establishment care a buffer needs to close its canopy.
- 04/04
Compliance records
Documentation of the green cover developed and maintained, for the post-EC compliance file.

Green Belt Development for Industries in Taloja MIDC: common questions.
01Our Taloja green belt is an old monoculture. Is it time to start again?
Not all at once. Keep the healthy trees and plant native species between and in front of them, so the belt becomes mixed and layered over a few years. Removing trees can need permission and leaves the plot bare. We survey the belt and set out a phased plan.
02How long does green belt development for industries take in Taloja MIDC?
On timing: planting seasonal; establishment 2–3 years. A realistic Taloja MIDC schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
