Purna's godowns leave almost no open ground between them, so where a consent calls for trees the work is finding room: a road frontage, a boundary strip, the edge of a turning yard. We choose species that tolerate dust, heat and poor soil, plant them where they also screen houses from loading bays, and keep a short tally of trees planted and trees surviving, which gives the owner a true count for the Board.
Purna is one of the busiest godown villages in Bhiwandi, close to the Mumbai–Nashik highway. Unlike the newer planned parks further out, much of it grew plot by plot, as landowners put up sheds and rented them to traders, distributors and small manufacturers. Almost anything can pass through: consumer goods, packaging, textiles, electrical items, furniture and chemicals. Galas of different sizes stand wall to wall along narrow internal roads crowded with trucks and tempos, and the older village and its families live right beside them. Much of the storage changes hands every few years.

Green Belt Development for Industries in Purna: common questions.
01With almost no open land at our godown, can the planting condition be met?
By planting every strip of soil that remains, with trees suited to narrow spaces. If there simply is not enough ground, we say so in writing and discuss alternatives with the Board, such as planting on common land nearby, rather than claiming trees that are not in the ground.
02How long does green belt development for industries take in Purna?
On timing: planting seasonal; establishment 2–3 years. A realistic Purna schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
