Majiwada has lost most of its unpaved ground, and new projects have to give some back. A landscape here is judged by how much rain it holds as well as how it looks: permeable paving in driveways, planting beds set below path level, roof water led to storage or recharge, and trees in deep, connected soil trenches rather than isolated pits. Planting is chosen to cope with fumes and heat from the road. The same choices lower the society's water demand in April.
Majiwada sits at the junction where the Eastern Express Highway meets the start of Ghodbunder Road, with flyovers and the Metro Line 4 viaduct overhead. The old village of Majiwada survives in lanes of low houses, now enclosed by towers of twenty floors and more. Around it are commercial blocks, hotels and offices, much of it built on land that was once industrial or open. Traffic between Mumbai, Ghodbunder Road and the highways north passes through the junction day and night. The neighbourhood is largely built out: the change now is redevelopment and densification rather than new ground.

Sustainable Landscaping in Majiwada: common questions.
01Is rainwater harvesting worth doing on our plot, or does the ground not absorb it?
It depends on what lies under your plot. Where soil is shallow over basalt, recharge is limited, and storing roof water for use does more than pushing it underground. Where there is depth of soil, recharge pits work well. We test infiltration on the plot itself before designing either.
02How long does sustainable landscaping take in Majiwada?
On timing: design to execution by scope; maintenance optional. A realistic Majiwada schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
