Building in Khalapur usually involves cutting a slope: a plant terrace, a resort on the hillside, an access road up to a bungalow plot. In the monsoon, bare cut faces wash soil into streams that feed the Patalganga and into the fields below. The plan tackles this before June: benching and drainage for cut slopes, silt traps on every outlet, topsoil stored for reuse, and planting on finished slopes as soon as the soil allows.
Khalapur is the taluka east of Panvel, through which the expressway to Pune and the old highway climb towards Khopoli and the Sahyadri ghat. It lies outside the municipal corporation and is a different kind of place from the CIDCO nodes. Factories and warehouses stand along the highways and around Khopoli, some of them large process plants; between them are farmland, villages, weekend homes, resorts and a theme park. The Patalganga river runs through the taluka, and forested hills rise on its eastern and southern sides. Land here is still being converted from farm to industry and leisure.

Environment Management & Mitigation Plan in Khalapur: common questions.
01Soil from our hillside site in Khalapur washed onto a farmer's field last monsoon. How do we stop it happening again?
Catch the soil on site. Silt fences below bare ground, trenches and settling pits at each outlet, and covering or planting exposed slopes before the rains handle the bulk of it. We walk the site, mark where water runs, and write the measures into the plan with a date for each.
02How long does environment management & mitigation plan take in Khalapur?
On timing: prepared at EIA; implemented for project life. A realistic Khalapur schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
