Badlapur MIDC lies east of the town centre, out towards Shirgaon and Kharvai, with low hills behind it and the Ulhas a short distance away. Its plots hold chemical, pharmaceutical, dye and engineering units (mostly small and owner-run, with a few larger plants among them) and a shared treatment plant receives the estate's effluent. It is younger and smaller than the chemical belts further down the railway at Ambernath and Dombivli, but it has filled in steadily. New housing now spreads across the fields and slopes around it as Badlapur keeps growing.
Most of the estate's questions lead back to the river. Water from the Ulhas is drawn downstream for towns across the region, so whatever the estate lets reach it is felt far beyond Badlapur. Small units have to keep effluent inside the inlet norms of the shared plant and account for every drum of hazardous waste. Odour and emissions now reach families in new buildings nearby. And owners who run a plant without a dedicated environment officer find the expected paperwork growing each year.

Badlapur MIDC: common questions.
01Our unit has grown beyond the capacity in our consent. What should we do?
Apply for an amendment that reflects actual capacity, and do it soon. Running above consented capacity is a violation, and it is far better raised by you than found during an inspection. If the increase also crosses a clearance threshold, that needs attention as well. We assess both questions together and prepare the filings in the right order.
02When is the environmental statement due?
Every year, by 30 September, reporting on the financial year that closed in March. It records the water and raw materials consumed, the pollution generated and how waste was handled. The figures need to agree with your consent and your other returns. We draw it up from your records, reconcile it with those documents and file it before the due date.
03Half our green-belt trees died last summer. What went wrong?
Most often the pits were poor, the species unsuited, or nobody watered in the hot months. Saplings need looking after for two or three years before they can manage alone. We assess the site, replace losses with better-suited species, and introduce a watering and care routine with one named person responsible, so the next summer ends differently.
04Our ETP operator has left. Can we outsource operation?
Yes. Many small units hand operation to a specialist contractor who runs the plant, keeps the logs and arranges testing. The unit stays responsible under its consent, so the contract needs clear standards, response times and reporting. We can operate the plant ourselves, or help you set up a contractor and check their work at intervals.
05Our expansion is small. Why would it need appraisal?
For some chemical activities the rules set no minimum size, so even a modest addition of a listed product can bring appraisal. For others, it depends on whether the change adds to the pollution load. We check the specific product against the schedule and your existing approvals before you commit money to equipment, so the answer shapes the purchase and not the other way round.
