Several wetlands around Dronagiri draw flamingos and other winter visitors, and some are recorded in the national wetland inventory. Orders of the Bombay High Court direct that such mapped wetlands be protected from filling and construction in Maharashtra. A plot that includes or borders one needs its status checked before earthwork starts. Dronagiri is CIDCO's node south of the port, named after the hill that rises within it. It was planned for both industry and housing, and its logistics side has grown fastest: container freight stations, warehouses and truck yards serve the port next door. Residential sectors are filling in more slowly. Much of the node was built on low land reclaimed from creek, salt pan and mudflat, and wetlands at its edges fill with migratory birds in winter. Container trucks bound for the port crowd the node's roads at every hour.
