Belavali's old trees (along village roads, field edges and the riverbank) hold soil and give shade, and new layouts should keep as many as the design allows. We survey the trees before planning, advise on which to retain, and prepare the permission for any that cannot be kept. Compensatory planting is placed where it will survive, including on the riverbank, where roots help hold the soil against floods.
Belavali lies in Badlapur West, on lower ground towards the Ulhas as the river passes the town. It grew from a village into a residential area of mid-rise buildings, and new layouts continue to rise on fields that were cultivated within living memory. The river is close, and in heavy monsoons its water has reached streets and ground floors, most memorably in the floods of July 2019. Old trees still line village roads and field boundaries. For many families here, the riverbank is the nearest open ground, used for walks and, too often, for dumping.
How it works
Tree Management, from survey to survival.
- 01/05
Tree enumeration & census
Every tree on site numbered, measured and identified, the defensible count the whole application rests on.
- 02/05
Transplant feasibility
An honest assessment of which trees can be saved by transplantation rather than felled.
- 03/05
Tree Authority NOC
The cutting / transplantation application prepared and pursued through the relevant municipal Tree Authority.
- 04/05
Transplantation
Careful lifting, moving and replanting of feasible trees with root-ball protection.
- 05/05
Post-transplant survival
Monitoring and the survival compliance the authority requires after a transplant.

Tree Management in Belavali: common questions.
01Which trees suit riverbank planting?
Species that tolerate occasional flooding and bind soil well (arjun, jamun and karanj are common choices) do well along rivers in this region. The bank's slope, soil and how long water stands on it all matter. We choose species to suit each stretch and plan care until the trees are established.
02How long does tree management take in Belavali?
On timing: census in weeks; NOC by Tree Authority calendar. A realistic Belavali schedule is set once the site and the scope have been read, and the work is carried through to the outcome by the same named people.
