Kalher's new housing depends on its own STPs, since sewer coverage in the area is limited. Plants have to run well while towers are still filling, and those on the creek's low edge must cope with shallow groundwater and heavy rain. We design treatment in modules that match occupancy, keep panels and blowers above flood level, and set up reuse of the treated water for flushing and the complex's gardens.
Kalher lies at the Thane end of Bhiwandi, beside Kasheli and not far from the creek crossing into Thane. It grew first as a godown village like its neighbours, but it is now also a housing area, as developers build residential complexes for people who work in Thane and Bhiwandi and want more space for their money. Warehouses, truck yards, new residential towers and older village houses stand side by side, and the roads carry goods traffic and commuters together. How the land drains is decided by low ground by the creek and by monsoon streams.
