Shelton, Belapur: a 45 KLD MBBR sewage treatment plant

A residential development has to treat its own sewage before it discharges, and it has to do it inside the footprint it already has. Belapur was sized at 45 KLD, which is what the development produces, not a round number chosen upward.

MBBR is the process. Moving bed biofilm reactor: the biology grows on carriers kept in suspension, so the treatment capacity sits in the media rather than in tank volume, and the plant occupies less ground than a conventional activated-sludge train of the same duty.
