Twenty-two kilometres of water supply infrastructure for the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran at Kolhapur: intake well, transmission main and pumping systems, with a 1 MLD treatment plant and a 5 lakh litre elevated service reservoir at the delivery end.
The brief
Water supply is a chain, and it is only as good as its weakest link: an intake that silts, a main that leaks, or a pump sized for a head it does not actually face will each defeat the rest of the system.
The Kolhapur works are the full chain rather than a single element: abstraction, transmission over twenty-two kilometres, treatment to supply standard at 1 MLD, and storage in a 5 lakh litre elevated reservoir from which distribution can be made under gravity.
What KIPL executed
- Intake well
- The abstraction structure at the source.
- Transmission main
- 22 km of pipeline between source, plant and reservoir.
- Pumping systems
- The pumping installations that move water along the main.
- Water treatment plant
- A 1 MLD plant treating abstracted water to supply standard.
- Elevated service reservoir
- A 5 lakh litre ESR, giving storage and gravity head for distribution.
