A traffic-themed park for the Panvel Municipal Corporation, across approximately 2.5 acres at Kharghar: a miniature road network with its own crossings, junctions and learning zones, set in play areas and landscaped green space. Under development: the photographs below are the site as it stands.
The brief
Road safety is taught to children as a list of rules and tested as a memory exercise. The Panvel Municipal Corporation wanted somewhere it could be learnt the way children actually learn: by doing it, at their own scale, with real crossings, real junctions and real signals to read.
The park had to work as a park as well. A place a family goes on a Sunday, with play areas, shade and planting, rather than a training ground that happens to be outdoors.
What KIPL is delivering
- A miniature road network
- Carriageways, junctions and signals at a child's scale, laid out so the rules of the road are read from the road itself.
- Traffic-learning zones and crossings
- Pedestrian crossings and dedicated learning areas, where road safety is practised rather than recited.
- Recreational play areas
- Play equipment and open ground, so the park holds children who have come to play rather than to learn.
- Landscaped green spaces
- Planting, shade and soft landscape across approximately 2.5 acres, making the setting a public garden and not a paved circuit.
How it is being built
- 01ClearThe plot at Sector 35 cleared and graded, levels set across the full 2.5 acres.
- 02FoundFoundation strips and retaining structures cast, setting out the road network before any surface is laid.
- 03BuildFormwork, reinforcement and pours carried through the monsoon months of 2026.
- 04FinishSurfacing, signals, markings, play equipment and planting still to come: the stage the park is working toward.
