The brief
Fish and seafood processing produces an effluent with a high organic load, high suspended solids and a strong protein and oil fraction: a difficult stream biologically, and one whose strength varies with the catch and the shift rather than holding steady through the day.
The mandate was a 120 KLD effluent treatment plant on a conventional treatment process: the arrangement that suits a load like this when it is well designed, because the biology has room to absorb the variation rather than being tuned to a narrow operating band it will not stay inside.
