A 50 KLD sewage treatment plant for Chaitanya Developers at Karanjade, treating the development's sewage on MBBR: the same site also runs a 50 kg/day organic waste converter.

The brief

A residential development has to treat its own sewage before it discharges, and it has to do it inside the footprint it already has. Karanjade was sized at 50 KLD, which is what the development produces, not a round number chosen upward.

MBBR is the process. Moving bed biofilm reactor: the biology grows on carriers kept in suspension, so the treatment capacity sits in the media rather than in tank volume, and the plant occupies less ground than a conventional activated-sludge train of the same duty.

The same development also carries a 50 kg/day organic waste converter, so its sewage and its biodegradable waste are both handled where they are produced rather than leaving the site.
