Kala Talao is the best known of Kalyan's old lakes, and it shows the pattern for the rest: a public space loved by the town, fed by drains that carry more than rainwater. Beautification has improved its edges, but the lake's water still reflects whatever the drains bring. We trace the inflows, test the water over a season, and design the fixes (diversion or treatment of sewage inlets, aeration, floating wetlands, planting along the banks) with a maintenance plan the municipality can keep up.
Kalyan West is the old town, the side of the railway junction where Kalyan grew as a port and market long before the suburbs arrived. The Durgadi fort stands above the creek, the Kala Talao lake sits near the old centre, and the APMC market and busy station roads carry traffic from the whole district. Beyond the core, towers are rising where older buildings stood, and new layouts have spread towards Gandhare and the Kalyan-Bhiwandi road. The Ulhas creek, tidal and lined with mangroves, forms the western edge. The Adharwadi dumping ground, long a local grievance, lies within it.
